Arizona
is a naturally beautiful place with many wondrous birds, beasts, and
buttes to protect. From the mountains to the deserts, Arizona's scenery
is spectacular, starting with the
magnificent Grand Canyon, first protected by Theodore Roosevelt in
1908.
Other
wonderfully eye-catching places include Saguaro and Petrified Forest
National
Parks, and numerous national monuments, including Grand
Canyon-Parashant, Vermilion Cliffs, Ironwood, Agua Fria, and Sonoran
Desert, which showcase the diversity of Arizona's scenery, including
canyons, mesas, lowland desert, and forests. Cabeza Prieta and Buenos
Aires
National Wildlife Refuges are two of the largest wildlife sanctuaries
in
the lower 48 states.
Arizona
has great potential for
generating pollution-free renewable energy, especially from the bounty
of sunshine for which Arizona is famous. Arizona accounts for 10
percent of the utility-scale solar projects under construction or
development nationwide. Additional growth is expected over the next
several decades.
Working
together, we can conserve Arizona's great natural heritage and make the
state a leader in producing cleaner energy made in America.
