Campaign Overview
Polling results suggest that a majority of conservative citizens believe that climate change is a threat and that action should be taken to slow, stop, or reverse it. This constituency is not well organized, nor has it coalesced behind any solutions.
Republicans for Environmental Protection and its "sister" ConservAmerica have launched a joint campaign focused on the key state of South Carolina. We are identifying and educating the conservative constituency in that state on the issue of climate change and the uniquely conservative solutions that may be used to address the problem.
With its Low Country, South Carolina will be drastically reshaped by rising ocean levels and increased storm patterns now predicted by scientists if climate change is not slowed, stopped, or reversed. The potential human suffering, budgetary impact, and citizen displacement is staggering. The state's governor, Mark Sanford, has written publicly about his concerns and his impatience with inaction on the part of our government.
This campaign has been designed to help shape acceptable public policy with the publication Good Stewards: A Conservative Citizen's Guide to Climate Change, project-specific pages on our two web sites (rep.org and ConservAmerica.org), and a media campaign. All aspects of the project are currently operational. Click here to download the 1.1 MB PDF of Good Stewards.
As funding becomes available, we plan to use this as a model to expand our outreach to other states at risk to the impacts of climate change.
