What’s Unique and Special About the REP Scorecard?
It scores only Republicans, offering an apples-to-apples comparison and avoiding the excuses that often arise when Republicans are compared to Democrats. Low-scoring Republicans can’t dismiss our scorecard by claiming that it’s “biased against Republicans.”
It scores only votes where the clear focus is an environmental or conservation issue. Other distracting issues, such as labor, trade, or reproductive concerns, are not a factor.
It gives creditsand awards extra pointsfor effective, pro-environmental leadership efforts, even if an issue did not get to the floor for a vote. Likewise, it gives demeritsand takes away pointsfor anti-environmental leadership. As a result, some lawmakers scored more than 100, while others scored less than zero.
