State Profile

From the towering peaks of the north to the desert canyons of the south, from the lava flows of the Malpais to the wide-open eastern plains, few states can match the glory of New Mexico.

We have Theodore Roosevelt to thank for many gems in New Mexico, such as the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument and what is now Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Herbert Hoover designated the White Sands National Monument. under the Antiquities Act. Gerald Ford signed legislation designating wilderness areas within Bandelier National Monument and Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge.

Former Governor David Cargo exemplified the Republican conservation tradition, and he's still active as a member of REP's Honorary Board. State Representative Kathy McCoy (the New Mexico chapter vice president for four years) is a REP member.

Working together, we can conserve New Mexico's wonderful natural heritage for the pleasure and benefit of future generations.
