Keep Front Quiet

by Gene Sentz, REP coordinator in Montana
published in the Great Falls Tribune on November 2, 2005

Perspective is a good thing. Self-described "hopeless motorhead" Dave Skinner (Tribune guest opinion, Oct. 23) belongs to the BlueRibbon Coalition, which is sponsored by scores of motorized dirt-biker and four-wheeler groups and off-road-vehicle manufacturers and dealers of Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, etc.

So it is ironic for Mr. Skinner to express surprise that Montana horse users and hikers who favor maintaining traditional quiet trails on national forest lands in the Rocky Mountain Front are fortunate in having broad public support and some generous conservation-minded sponsors.

Mr. Skinner altogether misses the point. There are thousands of miles of roads and trails in the U.S. for motorized recreational vehicles, but there is only one Rocky Mountain Front. Let's keep the trails of the Front primitive, and quiet.
