207 Promises Arizonans Water Issues, More Taxes

Re: C.T. Revere's column Monday ("Anti-land grab measure way off the mark") -- I couldn't agree more with C.T. Revere that Prop. 207 goes too far. Everyone agrees eminent domain has its issues. But the parties behind Prop. 207 -- an out-of-state group financed by an out-of-state real estate developer -- are using the emotional punch of eminent domain to push through a takings measure that will be very costly to Arizonans in more than a few ways.

Prop. 207 will make it next to impossible to set sensible water conservation standards or ensure that adequate water is available for development, which is a very real problem on Arizona's horizon.

Prop. 207 also will hurt the long-term development of our state by forcing local governments to cater to developers' whims instead of planning for the orderly growth of our communities.

Finally, Prop. 207, if passed, will mean higher taxes for us all. When land speculators and developers start taking full advantage of Prop. 207, the bill will be passed on to taxpayers. Don't be fooled by an out-of-state group's scheme to enrich themselves at Arizona's expense. Vote "no" on Prop. 207.
