Sammy Fretwell’s Sept. 4 article about Republican political strategists working to slow global warming was encouraging.
His report indicated that some senior Republican political advisers from South Carolina have decided global warming is an issue that needs strong and swift action to protect our quality of life. I hope Tucker Eskew, Whit Ayres and Tony Denny are joining in the battle to confront the challenges to public health, planetary life and the economy caused by global warming, not just for fat fees, but for the benefit to society.
These three savvy individuals can help educate and motivate more of our citizens to understand and confront global warming and its threat to our welfare.
They should also encourage more Republican politicians to address global warming more aggressively.
History has many examples of civilizations that crumbled because of a lack of knowledge and foresight to act swiftly to prevent catastrophe. I hope more Republicans will see that the challenges we face as good stewards of our planet’s life-sustaining characteristics go beyond partisan political labels.
