Bono Mack Made the Right Call with Climate Vote
May 22, 2009
Republicans
for Environmental Protection praised Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack,
R-CA, for taking the climate issue seriously and for her work to move
forward with balanced legislation.
"Bono
Mack's vote to move HR 2454 out of the House Energy and Commerce
Committee despite her misgivings is to be commended. Once again she has
put solving problems above partisan politics and has shown that she is
a dependable steward of our environment," REP Government Affairs
Director David Jenkins said.
"Safeguarding
our life-sustaining atmosphere for future generations is one of the
most important issues facing America, and constructive Republican input
is essential for producing balanced legislation. While the bill that
passed out of committee requires some reworking, it's a vehicle for
putting a price on carbon, which is essential for reducing greenhouse
gas emissions and climate change risks," Jenkins said.
"We are
disappointed that many House Republicans are unwilling to work
constructively on climate change. We urge them to put aside short-term
political agendas and follow Bono Mack’s lead in addressing this
critically important issue on behalf of all Americans," REP Policy
Director Jim DiPeso said.
