REP Endorses Wargotz for Maryland Senate Seat

April 20, 2010

Republicans for Environmental Protection (REP), a national grassroots organization that endorses proven, conservation-minded Republican candidates, is pleased to endorse Dr. Eric Wargotz for the U.S. Senate from Maryland.

"As an elected official representing Queen Anne's County on Maryland's Eastern Shore, Eric Wargotz knows the importance of conservation. Queen Anne's County comprises some of the most beautiful and ecologically sensitive areas of the Chesapeake Bay region. Eric has an established record of preserving and protecting these treasured areas, and making them available for all for generations to come," REP President Rob Sisson said.

"We have no doubt that Eric Wargotz will be a good steward of the environment. And, as Maryland's next senator, Eric will continue his work to preserve and improve the quality of the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries, as well as the surrounding region," Sisson said.

REP is pleased that Dr. Wargotz has made improving Chesapeake Bay water quality a high priority. "Progress in restoring the bay has been too slow. Over the past 30 years, taxpayers in Maryland and neighboring states have invested millions to restore the bay's water quality and its world-class fisheries. It's time for a senator who will make sure that taxpayers get a better return on their investment and finally see real progress with the bay's restoration," David Jenkins, REP vice president for government and political affairs, said.

"Dr. Wargotz is a smart and dedicated public servant who will act in the long-term best interest of Maryland and the nation," Jenkins said. "We are impressed with Dr. Wargotz's commitment to conservation."

Republicans for Environmental Protection is dedicated to resurrecting the Republican Party's great conservation tradition and strengthening its commitment to the responsible stewardship of our environment and natural resources, protecting the achievements of great conservation-minded Republicans such as President Theodore Roosevelt.

"Republicans were responsible for most of this nation's landmark environmental laws and for protecting America's natural heritage. We are fortunate that we have leaders like Eric Wargotz to carry on the conservative tradition of conservation today," said Jim DiPeso, REP’s vice president for policy and communications.
